DocumentSign™
Digital IDs for Adobe PDF
 |
|
The Certified Document Services (CDS) Solution enables
more secure, reliable electronic document exchange
Authors of PDF documents can add electronic Certifying Signatures and Approval Signatures to documents they distribute over the Internet. This process is the virtual equivalent to sealing a document and adding wet-ink signatures by assuring the recipient that the document is authentic, comes from a verified source and the contents has not been tampered with since being published.
GlobalSign is an authorized participant in Adobe's Certified Document Services (CDS) program. As such, GlobalSign operates under a stringent set of policies and standards developed by Adobe and audited by WebTrust which allows GlobalSign to issue Adobe recognized CDS Certificates, branded as DocumentSign Digital IDs, to individuals and departments within organizations. Such holders of DocumentSign Digital IDs can add Certifying and Approval Signatures to PDFs using a trust model introduced as standard in Adobe Reader 6.0 and onwards without installing any new plug-ins, configuring Adobe Reader/Acrobat to non-default settings, or needing to make confusing trust decisions.

Certifying Signatures
Using GlobalSign DocumentSign, PDFs can be certified by a person or department by adding a Certifying Signature, and when viewed will present the document recipient with a prominent "blue ribbon" displayed within Adobe Reader. Recipients can then easily determine the document authenticity and authorship. Prior to certifying the document the signer may specify the types of changes allowed for the document to remain certified (e.g. what is allowed without invalidating the Certifying Signature) such as "changes not permitted, form filling only or form filling and commenting".
Approval Signatures
DocumentSign allow PDFs to contain one or more Approval Signatures, added by individuals or departments, and when viewed present the document recipient with a "green checkmark" displayed within the PDF itself. Approval Signatures show which people or departments have consented to, approved or accepted to the contents of the PDF.

Includes two options for the Enterprise to manage the full life-cycle of DocumentSign Digital IDs issued under their organization name. For example:
- Distributed implementations of PersonalSign and DepartmentSign Digital IDs on USB tokens issued to individuals and departments
- Centralized implementations (maintained on the organization's server) DocumentSign Digital IDs for either departments or individuals
Distributed implementations involve providing organization administrators (acting as the organization's Registration Authority) a bulk quantity of PersonalSign or DepartmentSign Digital IDs for low volume Certifying and Approval Signature requirements and the associated Safenet USB tokens used to protect the Digital IDs.
Centralized, server-based implementations work with SafeNet hardware security modules (optionally sold) that are highly integrated with Adobe’s Enterprise Server suite. The net result is a highly automated solution with robust signing functionality for high volume addition of Certifying and Approval Signature to PDFs. |
